Questions to ask before sending your news release out

If you are sending in a news release about a soon to be launched website, or a newly formed company, be sure to include a direct contact name, phone number, and email address if possible, so that a reporter can easily find you if he or she has any questions about the information.

Get your news release read by reporters

Submitting your news story is a bit like standing behind the red velvet rope, hoping you have what it takes to make it past the doorman and gain admittance into an A list event. The competition is fierce, with only the best of the best making it past the editor's desk into the hands of the public.

Seymour Hersh's sources- watch this clip

Today on CNN, Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker, the one who mainstreamed the Abu Gahrib story, has confirmed with insiders that Bush and the Israeli Government planned months in advance that any incident, no matter how small, would ignite a broad and punishing response by Israel in a preemptive move to start a war with Iran. Apparently, Bush's Neocon advanced plan actually included Israel destroying Hezbollah's missles as pre-cursor to an attack on Iran. Watch this vid not only for content, but for an excellent real-life example of the question of reliable resources. Personally, I think Wolf Blitzer's question was a highly ethical one, and I call on all media, including bloggers to ask these questions before re-publishing or commenting on another journalist's work. Journalism is supposed to be the "Fourth Estate" of the government-- checks and balances. Let's provide checks and balances in our own blogs, newspapers, broadcasts and words as well.

Here's the News: Western Internet firms "act as censors" in China - MSN Money

Human Rights Watch Slams Western Web Firms on China Censorship (Reuters)
New York-based Human Rights Watch called the blocking of politically sensitive Web sites and search terms by firms like Google and Yahoo "arbitrary, opaque and unaccountable" and urged the publicly traded firms to be upfront with their users about censorship.

As I see it, the argument in a nutshell is that Yahoo and Google want business (money) no matter where it comes from. They are a business and they want to be in China. In order to do business in China, they had to agree with Beijing to censor results from their search engine. It's wrong and despicable to me, and according to American freedom of speech ideals. But... it's perfectly in accord with American "anything for a buck" business practices.

TV ad says website will help women in menopause

You've probably seen the ad on TV. It seems all soft and caring and points you to a website about Knowing Menopause (I am purposely not mentioning the site by name.) Did you notice that in the lower right corner of the ad sits the tiny little logo of a giant pharmaceutical company named Wyeth? Did you know that Wyeth is the maker of the two most widely prescribed pharma HRT products- the Premarin (r)and PremPro(r) of the Women's Health Initiative Study fame? You know, the little pills that increase the chances of heart disease and breast cancer so severely that the study had to be cancelled? And did you know that bio-identical hormone replacement has none of these contraindications because the hormone molecules are identical to the human hormones it replaces? Yes, and bio-identical hormone replacement preparations cost only about $15 to $30 per month? Scary facts to Wyeth. The company recently filed a request with the FDA to make bio-identical hormones unavailable to women. Sounds like a pharma giant protecting its own profits, not a nice, caring website that wants the best for women. Check it out and let me know what you think.
